Group ALS Training for Clinics, Rural Health Services and Hospitals

Getting a whole team through ALS is hard when every clinician has to find a public course, take leave and travel. Group ALS training solves that. EMRT runs boutique ALS1, ALS2 and ALS2 Recertification courses for groups of four to six candidates, at a time and place that suits your service.

What group ALS training is

A group booking is a private course for your team. The content, the accreditation and the credential are the same as a public course: accredited by Resuscitation Australia, aligned with the ANZCOR guidelines, and valid for four years. The difference is that you choose the date, the location and who attends.

Each candidate completes the eLearning and its short, embedded quizzes at home first. The in-person session then runs for your group alone: four hours for ALS1, eight hours for ALS2 and four hours for ALS2 Recertification.

Who it suits

Group training works best for services where getting staff away is the main obstacle:

  • Larger doctors' clinics and general practices, where several doctors and practice nurses need ALS for their roles

  • Multi Purpose Services (MPS), the small health services in rural towns that combine a small emergency department with a few inpatient beds, where the same handful of clinicians cover everything

  • Hospital groups and private hospitals, including major operators that need to bring a ward or department up to date together

Why train as a team

  • You train with the people you will actually work with. Scenarios rehearse your own team's roles and communication, not a room of strangers.

  • The scenarios fit your setting. In a group course the instructor can shape the simulations to your environment, whether that is a single bay rural emergency department or a surgical ward.

  • Less disruption to the roster. One planned session replaces several staff each hunting for a public course.

  • No travel for your staff. The course comes to you, or runs at a location that suits your team.

How a group booking works

  1. Contact EMRT with your preferred course (ALS1, ALS2 or ALS2 Recertification), the number of candidates and the dates and location that suit.

  2. Agree the date and venue. You provide a suitable training space; this may be at your facility or nearby.

  3. Candidates complete the eLearning and short embedded quizzes before the day.

  4. The training day runs for your group alone, with continuous training and assessment across the eLearning and the session.

  5. Each candidate receives a digital ALS credential, valid for four years.

What we need from you

  • A group of four to six candidates (smaller groups keep the training hands on)

  • A room large enough for skills stations and a simulated scenario

  • A contact person to coordinate the booking and the attendee list

An honest note: group courses are capped at six for a reason. If you have ten staff to train, two sessions will give everyone more time on the equipment than one crowded day. We will tell you if a booking would be better split.

Combining ALS1 and ALS2

Many teams need a mix: ALS1 for clinicians who work as team members, and ALS2 for those who lead the response. Tell us the mix you need and we will plan the sessions around your roster and the availability of our training staff.

Accreditation and CPD

EMRT courses are accredited by Resuscitation Australia and align with the ANZCOR guidelines. The training time counts towards your clinicians' CPD.

Frequently asked questions

How many people do I need for a group ALS booking?

Four to six candidates. Groups are capped at six so every candidate gets enough hands on time with the equipment and a role in the scenarios.

Can EMRT run an ALS course at our facility?

Yes. If your service has a room suitable for skills stations and scenarios, EMRT can run the course on site at a time that suits your roster. Otherwise a nearby venue can be arranged.

Is a group course the same credential as a public course?

Yes. The course is the same Resuscitation Australia accredited ALS1 or ALS2, with the same eLearning, assessment and four year credential. Only the scheduling and the attendees are different.

Can we mix ALS1 and ALS2 candidates?

Yes. ALS1, ALS2 and ALS2 Recertification are separate courses, and we can plan private sessions of each for the same team, subject to the availability of our training staff.

Which services book group ALS training?

Doctors' clinics, Multi Purpose Services in rural towns, Aboriginal Health Services, and private and public hospital groups use group bookings to train their staff together.
